The Classic Muscle Car with the Modern Edge

For almost 60 years, drivers have fallen in love with the Ford Mustang. While the 2022 Mustang is a long way from the 1964-½ model, the high-performance muscle car is still delivering speed, style, and good-old American fun. To differentiate the 2022 Mustang from previous years, Ford added new performance packages that are certain to turn heads.

Plenty of Impressive Performance Options

Drivers can choose their new Ford Mustang 2022 with a handful of performance-tuned engines that start with 310 horsepower and go up from there. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with 310 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Ford also offers the same engine with the High-Performance Package that delivers 330 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.

Moving out of the four-cylinder options, drivers can pick from a handful of V8 engines. The first two are 5.0-liter V8 engines that give the Mustang its “five-point-oh” moniker. The first comes in the GT model and delivers 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The other V8 comes in the Mach 1 trim and delivers 480 horsepower with 420 lb-ft of torque. The last engine, the impressively fast 5.2-liter V8 in the GT500, has an eye-popping 760 horses with 625 lb-ft of torque.

All Mustangs come standard with rear-wheel drive, and shoppers can choose from a few transmissions. The standard is a six-speed manual. All trims have an available 10-speed automatic transmission, while the GT500 has a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Drivers who want an eco-friendly Mustang have the Ford Mustang electric Mach-E. This electric vehicle comes standard with rear-wheel drive and one electric motor, or all-wheel drive with two electric motors. The horsepower on the Mach-E ranges between 266 and 480 depending on the motor and battery pack configuration.

Models get an EPA-estimated range of 247 and 314 miles of range from the various powertrain configurations. With the California Special, drivers can get the extended range battery with quick charging using a DC fast-charging system. Drivers have several trim options, including the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, and all trims come with a rear and front trunk for additional cargo space.

Standard Ford Co-Pilot360 Safety Features

Ford adds the Ford Co-Pilot360 safety features to the 2022 model year Mustang trims. This system includes Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Information System, Lane Keeping System, Auto High Beams, and a Rear Backup Camera. Other standard driver-assistive features include Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and the MyKey system that sets limits for secondary drivers. Buyers can add Rear Parking Sensors and Adaptive Cruise Control.

All the Standard Tech Drivers Need

The joy of driving a Mustang comes from the power under the hood, so Ford adds enough infotainment technology to satisfy drivers, without overpowering the performance features. The standard infotainment features include a voice-control SYNC system with six speakers, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and the FordPass Connect with remote features.

The available features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen with a nine-speaker audio system, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, SYNC 3, a pair of USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an HD Radio. Drivers can add a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo for a richer audio experience. Navigation is also available, as is a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a remote start system.

Modern Styling of Iconic Design

Nearly sixty years later, it’s easy to see the evolution of the 1964 ½ Mustang to the 2022 Mustang. The latest iteration still provides the same exciting design that debuted decades ago, but with modern features and upgrades. Fortunately, the pony still sits front and center, unless buyers choose the GT500 with the Shelby Cobra in the center of the grille.

As usual, drivers can choose from the four-seater fastback or convertible body style. All models have seating for four, except the GT500, which only seats two. Standard upholstery on the entry-level models is cloth, while the next trim includes synthetic leather seating. Leather seats are standard on the GT Premium trim. Ford offers several available packages, even on the base trim, so shoppers can upgrade the infotainment system, add a heated steering wheel, and more.
